OK, key of G works too–or A, D, E,, or however it’s transposed.

I truly miss the standard chords for “Silent Night,” have been singing harmony on it since second grade, learned bass runs for it while I could still reach around my guitar. then practiced both harmony and harmonic bass runs on it with my harmonicas, neither of which work with the “new” chording. Is it possible to get back the C,F,G key, with a few GM7s and G7 thrown in?
Jan Kahler
Good to see the site is working again. When will October song list be posted? Jan<

To those coming to Cogir Senior Center on Friday:
PARKING: At the main entrance gate, turn right. There is plenty of parking past the pulled back gate to the right. It’s a short walk from there to the entrance under the portico, but wheeled carriers work well on the sidewalk.
SEATING: In advance of setting up the chairs for our group, I’ll probably help to group about 20 chairs in front of the fireplace area, to the right of the facility entrance door. I’ll probably shove the usual chairs and couch back, clustered in front of the fireplace, to make more room for our group, which may restrict any dancing area, but don’t worry about that, because there are only two or three dancers, and I believe we don’t have ANY hula dancers! 😉 The library room across the hallway is where the servers put the snacks and drinks they hand out, so that space will be pretty much occupied. Of course, some of us can stand around the edges in the fireplace room, or in the space by the piano in the adjoining area. We will fit all who come in the available tight space one way or another!
Looking forward to making music with my friends again!

Correction: John, not Dave! Guess who’s having memory issues now! jck<
Jan Kahler
It is SO special to have a site for songs that has every one of them listed in the same format! It is too easy for us to just take it for granted and not realize that Chuck and Dave have devoted hours of their time to bring this about. It has been fun to see the site expand and improve since sometime in 2019. And it has cost, besides the time keeping the site going, money to correct issues and now to protect it from malware! Thank you!
Now that I don’t drive and have had to move away from Auburn for health issues, I can no longer attend, and I can’t tell you how much I miss what used to be, but my friends are coming to the senior living center where I live now, and I am thrilled!
I had hoped to start up a ukulele class here, but the man who signed up has arthritis and can’t do the ukulele, and the woman has memory issues! The man bought a harmonica, but he’s tone deaf! Oh well… Such is life!
BCn some of you soon!

So glad that you have the site up and running again!

It was wonderful to meet you all this afternoon! Thanks for letting me whistle and sing with you all! It got me to get my dulcimer out of its bag and play a while! Nice site! With so much music! Maybe I‘ll see you next Tuesday! Take care!
Chuck BullenAuthor
Hi Maryvonne,
Thanks for checking out our website. I’m going to email you and Paul a songlist for the Stringalongs (the Port Ludlow division of the Gold Country Strummers) which has links to the individual song charts.
Thanks for coming and hope to see you both next Tuesday.

I think that taking “Placer County” down a half step (from Bb to A) would make it a whole lot simpler to play, which is what I’ll be doing manually and using a capo on the first fret if it isn’t changed.
Marie Moore
Please, can you make a ” Gadzookes song list ” that I can print off. Like you do for each of the months.
Thank you,

Hello Marie,
Thanks for using the comments section!
John and I talked it over and he is working on a Gadzooks song list right now.
Stay tuned!

Observation: “Dance with Me” is in the key of F, right? Why not label all the C# chords as Bb?
Chuck BullenAuthor
Hi Jan,
You are correct, it is in the key of F and chords should be flats, not sharps. I’ve changed the A# chords to Bb and the C# chords to Db.
Chuck

When clicking on “Songs for Solstice Senior Living Center” the songs come up in alphabetical order, rather than playing order. Don’t remember where I got the playing order list that I printed, but it is NOT on the site.
Jan Kahler
Unfortunately the Event Song List on the site is in alphabetical order, not play order. Please send a link that takes me to the list in play order.
Chuck BullenAuthor
Hi Jan,
John may have already cleared this up with you, however I’ll reply anyway.
We don’t have an option to display the monthly, or any other, songs in play order. Every sub listing (monthly, event) DOES have a song sheet. For the events, the song sheet IS in play order. So when you go to this current solstice event, and click on the song list, you see the play order, right?

Hey Chuck, I took a fun video last Monday that members wanted to have it shared. Was wondering if there’s a way to upload it (even for a week or two) to this web site? The video is MOV format and about 168 MB size.
All Auburn UKE players and enthusiasts converging on Downtown and Old Town Auburn filling these Foothills with GOOD, GOOD, GOOD VIBRATIONS!

Looking fwd to playing the new Oct. song list. Thank you for retaining many of those used last year. The Jan 27, 2022 song posted for the October list, “I’ll See You in My Dreams,” lists a D7alt chord but has no chord diagram for it. I’m figuring that if there is actually a suggested D7alt, chord, it will be as interchangeable as other alt chords, where the one we usually use works fine.,
Chuck BullenAuthor
Hi Jan,
Correct… when playing baritone, just stay on the D7. I’m going to forward you a copy of how it’s played on the soprano uke… or played in C on the baritone. Listen to Joe Brown on youtube. This song is pretty complex and involves a lot of stretching of the pinkie! So I just tried to simplify it without losing too much of the complexity.

Hi,
Just saw your post on Nextdoor and am interested in coming along to play Ukulele with you.
I have been playing the Ukulele for a few years but more recently have moved onto the guitar so am a little rusty.
I got tired of playing on my own so your group sounds just like the motivation I need to start playing again!
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Thanks,

“When Irish Eyes are Smiling” in the key of D Matches the recording provided on our site, but that is an Irish tenor singing, and I believe that we don’t have any Irish tenors in our group. I saved a February 25, 2020 version that is in the key of F that is far easier for me to sing. I wish you’d put that version back on our site so that more of us can sing it easily. I’m sorry I didn’t post this comment sooner, but time got away from me.
Chuck BullenAuthor
OK, Jan, good idea.
Done.
Thanks.

Not sure why the M in CM7 was changed to a smaller-sized M…
Chuck BullenAuthor
Reserving big letters for A-G. Wouldn’t want anyone to think the chord was in the key of “M”. Many of the earlier songs have a larger “M” and some older ones still have “maj” which we retired.
Chuck
Jan Kahler
Key of M! Surely you gest. The change from maj to M was fine. Now is changing that letter to a smaller font really needed? I’ve never seen that used anywhere else, but what do I know?!

“For What It’s Worth” for the baritone is missing, so I printed it for the soprano because all I needed is the cords. I believe the A# cords would be better noted as Bb.
Chuck BullenAuthor
Hi Jan,
Sorry for the delay.
OK, baritone version of “For What It’s Worth” is now on line.
Not sure I agree with you about the Bb vs A#. The key is D, and there are no flats in the D scale so why would we use Bb? This may highlight my lack of understanding about how these things work. Let me know how you see it.
Chuck
Jan Kahler
Hi! Just got back from Montana and printed up the Sept. songs. I believe that on “World Without Love” the chord marked Ab7 should be G#7.
Chuck BullenAuthor
OK, Jan – fixed. Keep those comments a’comin’.
Carol Fonda-Clark
Hi Chuck, You said I should comment so I am. First of all We miss you. I hope you love your new home.
Desperado is in too low a key for most people to sing. The Eagles played it in the key of G, not C. Can we get it changed?
Also, AS Time Goes By is too low as well.
Can you try these out and see if you agree? I got an electric Ukulele and a Fender AMP. whoo Hoo!
After Covid settles down again, come and visit!
Chuck BullenAuthor
Hi Carol,
OK, I did half of what you asked. Desperado is a September song, so I made a G version. It is on the website and ready to download.
I’ll be very curious about what the others think about C being too low. The G version (as sung by the Eagles) is pretty darn high, especially when you have to go up to the Em on the 5th, 7th, 13th and 15th lines. I can’t even get close.
But hey, I’ll let John know to take a G copy and you all can try it out.
As to “As Time Goes By”… I’ll have to look at that at a later time. But let me know how many half steps did you want it go up?
Chuck
Carol Fonda-Clark
Thanks Chuck,
Things blew up today at group since I called John on a song the had time signature of 3/4 and he was insisting on playing it in 4/4. He got in my face telling me I was wrong and his way or the highway. So I googled it and showed him.
So if there is any way, can the time signature be put in the music? Maybe up by the beginning singing note?
That way everyone will be on the same page. It is basic info on all written music. We don’t play songs with complicated changing signatures.
Today was really embarrassing and there is really no reason that it should happen again.
Let me know if the program won’t do it, I will google every song for next month and make a list to share with everyone.
Thanks Chuck and also for Desparado update.

Hi folks,
Just saw your ad on CL, will probably drop in Mon.
On your song sheets I see u have chords but then u also have a “sing” key noted..
Shall I assume then the sing key is the key u usually play it in?
Thanks,
Rod
Chuck BullenAuthor
Hi Rod,
No, the “sing” notation means that is the first note that you sing… not necessarily the key of the song, which is listed on the web page.
Assuming you have a soprano, concert or tenor uke, you just click on the song name for the song sheet. If you have a baritone uke, click on the “B” next to the song name. (Or if you’re left handed, click on “L” or “BL”.) We’ll be glad to see you on Monday.
